Do I need to give a tip on a dive trip? How much do I need to tip on a dive charter? Do I tip the dive instructor or dive master? These questions are ones that cause some of my students a bit of anxiety as they go on their first dive trip and learn they should have been tipping instructors, DMs, captains, and more along the way. Now, not every location is the same and in some parts of the world, tipping may not be needed at all, but in many other areas, tips are almost necessary for dive professionals to earn more than a living wage. While this is a highly debated topic, I do inform my students about dive tipping etiquette so they are prepared to budget for the additional cost of their dive trip, charter, course, etc.
