DSMB deployment needs to be handled with care to ensure the diver is not dragged to the surface with the equipment. Here are a few points for deploying a DSMB:
1. NEVER clip a deployed DSMB to yourself 2. Ensure the DSMB is fully unraveled before inflating 3. Understand how your specific reel connects and works before use underwater 4. If DSMB is dragging you up, let go 5. Inflate with an air source that in not your primary source in a controlled manner
DSMBs are used widely when drifting diving so the boat knows where to come and pick you up, and to signal to other boats in the area. They’re usually deployed in a safety stop at 5 meters. 🐠 🚤
