Today we explore the East of Indonesia as we scuba dive across the Banda Sea starting in Alor, East Nusa Tenggara.

This is the first in a two part series as we explore across the Ring of Fire, a chain of volcanoes and remote reef systems which spread from NTT province all the way to Ambon, Maluku with my old friend Alex with Konjo Cruising Indonesia.

On this episode we are onboard the fantastic diving liveaboard, the Phinisi Teman. We start in Alor where there are strong currents and beautiful hard and soft coral reefs. There is a lot of interesting macro life including the frogfish. And we have an encounter with the amazing thresher shark. Pantar island, pura island and the pantar strait.

We also visit the Abui tribe in Alor island where they wear traditional tribal clothing in their village and perform a special dance around a sacred stone.

Next we set sail to Wetar island. And there there is Pulau Nyata and Pulau Reong. We dive and see the Silvertip shark.

The next day we arrive in Nus Leur in the Damar islands. And we see huge schools of fish, barracuda, jacks, fusiliers and surgeon fish. We spend some time in Pulau Terbang utara.

Then we set sail overnight to the first volcano in the ring of fire. Pulau Teun. And we visit the island village to meet the locals in this remote place. And they explain their tribal mythology of how they believe that the hobbit man once lived on this island.

That’s it for part one. Don’t forget to subscribe and be notified for next weeks episode as we continue our Liveaboard diving cruise across the Banda sea on this wonderful Phinisi dive boat.
