Caohagan Island is a tiny, 5-hectare coral island in the Cebu Strait, known for its pristine white sand and clear waters. Located about a 45-minute boat ride from Mactan, Cebu, it offers a blend of rustic village life, fresh seafood, and tropical relaxation.
The Beaches: The island features a beautiful, triangular-shaped sandbar and shallow, turquoise waters that are perfect for wading and swimming.
Local Culture: Home to a small local community, the island is heavily geared toward authentic cultural exchanges, allowing visitors to interact with the friendly locals.
Activities: It is a prime stop for island-hopping tours, offering excellent snorkeling, beachfront massages, and opportunities to buy local handicrafts.
Dining: Visitors can purchase fresh catches—such as grouper, squid, and sea urchin—from the local market and have them grilled right on the beach.
To get to Caohagan Island in Cebu, head to Mactan Island and charter a motorized bangka (outrigger boat) or join a guided island-hopping tour. Boat trips depart from local ports like Maribago, Angasil, Marigondon, or Hilton Port. The boat ride takes about 30 to 45 minutes
From Cebu City, take a Grab or taxi to Mactan Island (30–45 minutes)
There are two main ways to travel to the island:
Join an Island-Hopping Tour:
Highly recommended for hassle-free travel, as these packages usually include permits, a seafood lunch, and hotel transfers. You can book these online. Just have a look for travel agency that offers an island hopping tour or you could simply check in Facebook Page.
Hire a Private Boat:
If you prefer a private trip, you can rent an entire outrigger boat at the port. Rates range from PHP 3,500 to PHP 7,500 depending on the boat size and the number of islands you want to visit (such as Gilutungan and Nalusuan.
The entrance fee to Caohagan Island ranges from ₱100 to ₱300 per person, depending on the season and local tour packages. For children or students, rates can sometimes be negotiated down to around ₱100.
Entrance Fee: Typically between ₱100 to ₱200, which usually covers the environmental fee.
Cottage Rental: ₱300 to ₱500 per cottage (fits 4–6 people) if you need a shaded area or table.
Snorkel Gear Rental: ₱100 to ₱200 if you want to use their masks and fins.
Fresh Seafood: Prices for cooked seafood (like lobster, Kasag, and Saang) can be on the expensive side depending on the catch of the day, so it's a good idea to bring extra cash if you plan to eat on the island.
